Happy Fathers Day! DIY

My husbands first fathers day gift. He has become quite the gardener. I bought a piece of wood and two garden stakes for about $3 dollars and stamped my daughters foot. I would of stamped both but she was very wiggly. Then l sealed it with Modge Podge. It was a fun and easy do it yourself craft for Father's Day. He really loved it.

Edaphosaurus, Lion, and Westie drawings

Got to do some drawing today while my baby played. I did a doodle of her toy Lion and Edaphosaurus. I thought the dinosaur was a dimetrodon (dinosaur with a fan on its back) but whatever. It had the Edaphosaurus label on its tail. Also sketched a West Highland Terrier.

Sketch of a sailboat

Did a sketch of a sailboat. I haven't had a lot of time to sit and paint the past couple of weeks. l used white, purple and cadmium.

Homemade Baby Gifts: Pacifier clips

I made my baby girl some homemade pacifier clips and toy holders. She has become a huge fan of throwing her pacifiers and toys. This is an easy and fashionable way to keep things from hitting the ground.

I have had several people ask me how I made these since my daughter has been using them. It is soooo easy!

You will need:
suspender clips (metal clip)
ribbon that is 1inch thick
hot glue
velcro or snaps

cut the desired length of ribbon.
fold the ribbon in the back to form a seam (meeting in the middle and securing with glue). The seam l created can be seen on the purple pacifier holder. Attach the velcro or snaps ensuring that they are far enough apart to attach a pacifier or toy. I would recommend sewing snaps on and reinforcing with hot glue so your baby doesn't chew them off and choke. Then loop the other end through the suspender clip.

These make great personalized gifts for baby showers. Extra ribbon can be used for a matching hairbow.

Remembering the loss of a loved one

I did a collage/painting for my sister-in-law who recently lost her mother. Her mother was young when she passed away, and my sister-in-law was left wondering how she would be able to help her three young children remember their grandmother. They are all under the age of four. In this painting I used 4 photographs of the children with their grandmother. I also incorporated a poem about remember a deceased loved one called "If I should go tomorrow" author unknown

"If i should go tomorrow
it would never be goodbye, for i have left my heart with you
so don't you ever cry
The love that's deep within me
shall reach you from the stars,
You'll feel it from the heavens,
and it will heal the scars."

Jungle Theme Baby Room: Accent Art

Jungle theme baby rooms are a great way to expose your baby to different animals and bright colors. Babies are able to notice high contrast from birth and bold blocks of colors will provide a baby with a lot to look at while laying in their crib. Jungle theme art doesn't have to be giraffes and lions. Adding a large number of small paintings through out the room rather than painting the wall directly is an easy way to brighten up a space. Custom paintings make wonderful baby shower gifts. Red-bellied woodpecker

My parents have a Red-bellied woodpecker that is determined to peck through there metal chimney cap. So periodically through the day you will hear this little guy pecking his brains out (literally). Kinda sounds like a machine gun haha.
So took it as an excuse to play with my watercolors.

Turtle watercolor and painted furniture

I wish I had taken before and after pictures, but as usual, I wasn't that clever. My husband had some old wooden furniture since his birth that has managed to stick with him for 25 years. We finally got new furniture so I painted the old dresser and chest of drawers for my little girls room. Eventually we will move it when we no longer need the changing table, but for now it fits.

I found my watercolors from highshool while cleaning and decided to play around a little. Turtles are my favorite animal (even though I am actually scared of them) so naturally I chose to paint one. I have gotten away from sketching and doodling and Have really been needing to revisit it. It is so much more enjoyable for me to doodle than to attempt at a master piece ;)

Genesis 9:11 painting #2

This is my second painting following the same idea and theme as the one posted yesterday

And I will establish my covenant with you, neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.
Genesis 9:11
Through lent we hear a lot about covenants. This piece is inspired by the symbol of a rainbow as a sign of Gods covenant with man that he never again will flood the earth. The flowers were drawn on a rainbow colored scrapbook paper. The blue in the painted flowers stands in for water. The dove (which in Genesis carried an olive leaf back to Noah) is an echo of the symbol of the rainbow. A collage image of Saint Therese the little flower is also included. She is my confirmation patron Saint.

Work in Progress: The Little Flower

l am still making an active effort to paint/draw everyday. But l have once again found myself at a road block where l don't know what l am trying to accomplish. This piece has basically been a "sketch" where l am working through different ideas. l bought a bunch of really cheap (and ugly) scrapbook paper. l decided, in an effort not to be wasteful, to draw on top of the scrapbook paper and collage it into my painings. Several of the flowers were created this way. l think l may need to move away from florals soon though. l am beginning to really bore myself...

Faith the size of a mustard seed

Painting for my sister-in-law's mother. Top left is the scripture verse, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." Matthew 17:20

Painting is still wet so it looks shiney, and once again, my camera takes really crappy photos. So Just use your imagination :)

Things aren't always what they seem #2 Recycling shark

Recycling Shark
Everyone can do their part!
Sharks are often viewed as destructive, dangerous animals. I thought it would be ironic showing the "environmentally friendly" side of the shark. He may not care who's family he eats, but he sorts through the paper and plastic!

"Things aren't always what they seem" series Painting #1

The paint is still wet so the balloon is a little shiney in this picture. I have been listening to so many people debate over politics recently. Everytime I hear two people argue I am baffled by how they seem to view the other side as "Idiotic" or "Evil". This inspired me to do a series titled "Things aren't always what they seem". I am going to use animals with bad reputations showing their soft side, as well as, animals with good reps showing a more... devious side. So this scorpion is my jumping off point.
